Hi, I’m Jomel, The Scientific Moron!
Thanks for stopping by and taking interest in my research journey.
I’d love to say that science always goes smoothly, but honestly, it doesn’t. I have my fair share of setbacks, failed experiments, and plenty of “I don’t know what’s happening” moments. But I believe that’s what makes science real and human. We learn, fail, and keep moving forward — one pipette at a time.
I’m currently a Doctor of Science candidate at the Molecular Ecology and Health Laboratory, Ehime University, supported by the MEXT Scholarship Program.
At the heart of my research lies one big question in evolutionary biology:
How do new species form even when they share habitats and exchange genes through introgression?
To explore this, I use genomic tools to unravel the mechanisms of adaptation. As part of my work, I’m developing a new sequencing method that can efficiently target and decode large portions of coding DNA. I hope this approach will bring us a step closer to understanding how species diverge and adapt in our ever-changing world.
