You've found The Scientific Moron!
Thanks for stopping by!
If you're wondering what to expect here, you've come to the right place. Consider this your hub for my scientific musings. I'll be posting updates from my research, writing about new and interesting papers, and sharing the occasional note from my travels.
And I'd love for this to be a space for your curiosities, too. If you've stumbled upon a weird science fact, have a "dumb" question, or just saw something cool in nature, I'm happy to hear it!

Have you ever imagined what life would be like as a student in Japan, not in the busy streets of Tokyo or Osaka, but somewhere quieter, where you can actually hear the wind rustle through the trees and greet the same people every morning? That’s what life in Matsuyama feels like. It’s a city that gives you both a space to grow academically and a community that feels like home.
Changing research paths isn’t just about learning new methods, it’s about unlearning what you thought you already knew. In this story, I share what it feels like to start from scratch again, to feel lost, and to rediscover why we do science in the first place.
Cafe and Stories
We often default to metrics like paper counts, h-index, and citations, yet these numbers can be manipulated and rarely capture the depth or difficulty of work across different fields. With uneven expectations and flawed indicators, the question remains: what really defines success for a scientist?
This morning’s unexpected hike taught me something simple: peace doesn’t always require distance. Miyukijiyama showed me that even the busiest days can hold space for nature, and a moment to breathe.
Conference Travel
Evolution science, new friends, stunning architecture, and endless food—OIST turned what could have been just another conference into an unforgettable adventure filled with learning, laughter, and moments that reminded me why I love doing research.

Kick nets, cold rivers, and countless insects! Fieldwork in Japan turned out to be way more fun and rewarding than I ever expected, blending science with stunning landscapes and unforgettable moments in every river I stepped into.
The name is a reminder of what it actually feels like to do science.
We see the polished papers and the groundbreaking discoveries, but we rarely see the years of confusion, the failed experiments, and the moments of staring at a dataset thinking, "I have no idea what any of this means."
I've been there more times than I can count. In those moments, you feel like a bit of a moron. But that feeling is not a sign of failure; it's the starting pistol for discovery. It means you've found the edge of your understanding, and the only way forward is to ask a "stupid" question.
This site is built on those questions. It's a celebration of the messy, humbling, and incredibly fun process of figuring things out.
